Oh, Kentucky! Workshop - Show 2

  • The Center at West Park 263 West 86th Street New York, NY, 10024 United States (map)

Be one of the first to experience Oh, Kentucky!, a new musical by Ellie Sorota and Suzanne Hayes.

Porter Hobbs is a confident, polished Chicago banker — the kind of man who left his Kentucky roots behind and built himself into someone new. When his bank sends him south to foreclose on struggling farmers, he tells himself it's just business. He's good at that.

Emma Jane Anderson is a fiery, freckled schoolteacher — practical, tough, and naturally beautiful. She's fighting to keep her family's hollar out of the bank's hands, and she isn't about to let some city man in a pressed suit tell her what her home is worth.

As Porter enforces the bank's ruthless demands, he's forced to confront the roots he tried to bury. Drawn together by clashing convictions and undeniable attraction, Porter and Emma Jane wrestle with duty, survival, and the pull of home. The Anderson family — sharp-tongued matriarch Irene, steady and silent patriarch Arthur — welcome Porter in. A colorful cast of community characters, including nine-year-old Ree and her beloved stuffed pig Napoleon, surround them with the full weight and warmth of small-town Kentucky.

Through heartfelt ballads and rousing ensemble numbers, Oh, Kentucky! celebrates resilience, community, and the enduring power of love and belonging when the world feels broken.
