Steve Sandberg & Alaya
March 8 @ 7:00 pm
Music from the Upcoming Album and a Conversation with Composer Carman Moore
“music from a country I’ve never been to but always wanted to visit”
Steve Sandberg is an eclectic musician and three-time Emmy-nominated composer with a lifetime of experience in many worlds of music. Steve Sandberg & Alaya, a recording project and live performance quartet, has appeared at The DiMenna Center, the Cornelia Street Cafe, and the BeanRunner Cafe.
The concert will begin with performances from the solo classical piano repertoire (including original compositions), and continue with the quartet’s soaring improvisations on originals that draw from European, African, Latin, Balkan and Indian traditions.
After the concert will be a live onstage conversation between Steve Sandberg and Carman Moore – a world-renowned composer, conductor, author, and music critic – about the diverse origins of Sandberg’s compositions and the role of music in today’s tumultuous political and social climate.
Featuring Steve Sandberg, Zach Brock, Mauricio Zottarelli, and Michael O’Brien
