Melissa Gerstein’s I’LL REMEMBER FOR YOU: AMERICAN ART SONG
October 12 @ 7:30 pmFree
Featuring Eric Sedgwick on piano and soprano Elizabeth Eiel
Starting with the parlor songs of Stephen Foster, detouring to traditional American folk song, and concluding with a work by contemporary composer, Daron Aric Hagen, inspired by a suitably ambivalent love song to New York sung by two Manhattanites while strolling down Broadway, the concert will offer a genuine and somewhat chronological anthology of American song. Other works include John Musto’s song cycle “Shadow of the Blues,” which includes four songs on poems of Langston Hughes, and more boisterous pieces by other composers who combine jazz and classical idioms including Gershwin, Rodgers, and Mancini.
